Do I have to be a first-time buyer?
Many programs define a first-time buyer as someone who hasn’t owned a home in the past three years. Some, like Virginia Housing’s Plus Second Mortgage, are also open to repeat buyers.
Does down payment assistance have to be repaid?
It depends. Virginia Housing’s grant is never repaid. Local programs are often 0% loans that are deferred until you sell or refinance, or forgiven over time.
How do I apply?
